Types of NIE number
NIE for transactional purposes
If you're planning a one-time property purchase and don't intend to reside in Spain permanently, a transactional NIE is sufficient. This document is valid for 3 months and allows property purchase.
Residence NIE (permanent)
If you plan to reside in Spain permanently or spend more than 183 days per year there, you need a residence NIE. This document has no expiration date and serves as an identity card for residents.
